I got 2 separate Office 2021 licenses for some older computers that I had upgraded, and it went very well. After upgrading these 2 computers, Microsoft started prompting to register them since it could no longer recognize the hardware.
On the first computer, I downloaded and installed Office 2021 as instructed. I then registered it with by phone call as instructed.
On the second computer, I neglected/forgot to download Office 2021, and install it. When I started the second computer, it prompted me to register the existing Office 2016 and I followed the same validation process I had on the first computer. The 2nd computer had been running a 2016 Office version, and I accidentally used my new license key to validate Office 2016. I wished I had followed instructions better - but - my Office 2016 is working fine.
